Yesterday, June 15th, the annual presentation of the medals of the 28th Quality Contest of Jumilla Wines took place in the amphitheater of the Casa de la Cultura in Hellín (Albacete – Spain). In total, twenty gold medals, sixteen silver medals and three special mentions were distributed among all the wineries belonging to the DOP Jumilla, of which four went to our winery, in addition to the honorable mention for our Luzón Colección Monastrell as the best organic wine of the PDO, which repeated, for the fourth consecutive year, the gold medal for the best young wine of Jumilla.

After two rigorous blind tasting sessions by the eighteen members of the jury, held last week where more than one hundred and fifty wines were evaluated, including reds, rosés and whites, the winning wineries were awarded the prizes for the best wines of the year in the nine categories that make up the competition.

In this edition Bodegas Luzon has won four gold medals and a special mention in the 28th Quality Contest of Jumilla Wines.

The awarded wines are:

It is especially important for us to achieve for the fourth consecutive year the Gold Medal for the best young wine of the D.O.P for our Luzón Colección Monastrell, which also has a new image and which, as we mentioned at the beginning, also obtained the Honorable Mention for the best organic wine of Jumilla.

THE FUTURE IS GREEN

In the last few years, at Bodegas Luzón we have made great efforts to implement a sustainable working model, from the vineyard to the winery, something that was reflected in obtaining five years ago, the Wineries for Climate Protection (WfCP) certificate, only awarded to wineries that demonstrate a high degree of environmental sustainability. In addition to this certification, several processes of continuous improvement were added, such as the intelligent management of the winery’s waste or the installation of a photovoltaic plant in 2022, in the winery’s ongoing quest to reduce its carbon footprint as much as possible.

These processes are of course also reflected in the creation of our wines, such as our entire organic range, Luzón Colección Monastrell, Altos de Luzón or Finca Luzón Sin Sulfitos, all of which come from sustainably farmed vineyards and are suitable for vegan consumption, using plant-based materials for the fining process.

In addition to this list of awards, at Bodegas Luzón we are also in luck because Luzón Colección Monastrell 2021, in addition to winning a gold medal and the aforementioned special mention in the organic category, has a new image. A fresher and renewed image but that maintains all the essence and spirit of the Monastrell from Jumilla.
