Luzón Colección 2023: A warm vintage but full of promise

At Bodegas Luzón, the cycle of each vintage is a unique story, a narrative woven between the vagaries of the weather and the skill of our winemaker. This year, Vicente Micó, gives us his vision of the 2023 vintage, a season marked by heat and drought, but which has resulted in exceptional wines, full of freshness and purity.

“The 2023 vintage was hot and very dry,” Micó told us. “These conditions led to excellent health and quality in the grapes. However, we also faced the challenge of low yields due to low rainfall throughout the growing season”.

Spring brought delayed bud break, accompanied by a lack of rain and low humidity, which set the tone for the season from the start. An extremely hot and dry summer brought the harvest forward and caused a 22% decrease in production compared to the previous year.

“The detailed study of each plot allowed us to precisely define the harvest time for each vineyard”, Vicente explained. “Always in search of freshness and terroir expression, avoiding over-ripeness”.

Thus, the Luzón Colección 2023 stand out for their great purity and clarity, with a vibrant acidity and aromatic complexity that distinguishes them.

Luzón Colección Blanco 2023

This young white wine is a perfect blend of Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc from trellised vineyards with an average age of 20 years and limestone soils. The grapes are harvested early in the morning and harvested mechanically to preserve the freshness of the grapes. The result is a yellow wine with greenish reflections and bright, fresh aromas of green apple, together with citric and tropical notes. On the palate, it is unctuous, with balanced acidity and a lingering finish.

Luzón Colección Rosado 2023

This rosé wine is made from 100% Monastrell grapes from trellised vineyards at an altitude of over 500 metres above sea level and limestone soils. Salmon pink in colour, this wine offers expressive aromas of red fruits and flowers. On the palate, its balance is remarkable, with a sweet and refreshing finish reminiscent of cherry candies and jams.

Luzón Colección Monastrell 2023

Monastrell 2023 is a young, fresh, single varietal red wine made from grapes selected by hand from different vineyards. With an intense purple colour, it presents aromas of red fruits and a spicy touch on the nose. In the mouth, it is juicy and fresh, with an enveloping body and a long, vibrant finish.

In conclusion, the 2023 vintage of Luzón Colección offers us fresher wines, with less colour but with exceptional elegance and finesse. This is an example of the care and dedication that Bodegas Luzón puts into every step of the winemaking process.
