We recently received the news that our Altos de Luzon 2020 had received a new international recognition, a silver medal in the second ‘The Global Organic & Vegan Wine Masters 2023’ held by The Drink Business in the category of still oaked red.

In this competition, The Drink Business takes into account organic and vegan wines, a trend that is gaining more and more strength and weight among wine consumers, a fact that is endorsed by the increase in the production of this type of wines at a global level.Wines of any style, from anywhere in the world, are judged at ‘The Global Organic & Vegan Wine Masters’, with the almost unique requirement that they must be certified organic or vegan, by a panel of judges made up exclusively of Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and senior buyers, who have evaluated the wines solely on style and price.

Silver medal for Altos de Luzon 2020

Our Altos de Luzón is one of our most iconic wines. A wine created with the purpose of showing our values and the potential of the land we love with responsibility and pride.

A 100% Monastrell wine harvested from the ‘Parcela La Melera’, a 40 year old unirrigated vineyard located in La Venta del Puerto, at an altitude of 675 metres above sea level, with very poor and sandy soil, which provides small-grained grapes, with a lot of concentration and good acidity.

The grapes are harvested by hand in boxes of 10/15 kg. and transported to the winery with great care, spending 24 hours at 6ºC in cold storage before being selected by hand on the table, where the best grapes are selected and fermented for 8 to 10 days, the wine remaining in contact with the skins in maceration for a period of 10 to 15 days.

This red wine, aged for 12 months in American and French oak barrels, has a deep red colour with ruby highlights, with expressive and intense aromas, dominated by notes of red and black fruits, sweet spices and soft smoky notes thanks to its ageing. In the mouth it is frank, with a lively freshness that speaks of the vintage, without losing its fruity character. On the palate, it has a full palate with volume, and fine tannins, ending with a lingering finish in which its complexity can be appreciated.

As for pairing suggestions, we recommend pairing it with meat and game, such as hare, partridge, leg of kid, lamb, smoked meats, stews and rice dishes with meat, and as for fish products, it is perfect with more robust fish such as salmon, cod and bluefin tuna, smoked. If we are thinking of accompanying it with vegetables or starters, mushrooms and aubergine will be perfect, as will medium-high strength cured cheeses or blue cheeses. And don’t forget to accompany dessert with Altos de Luzón, as this red wine is perfect to pair with desserts and chocolate bonbons.
